The Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) leads the national coordination, ensuring the Ladder’s effective integration into public procurement processes. By using the Ladder, businesses can gain a competitive edge in public tenders, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and innovation.
The CO2 Performance Ladder also aligns with broader European climate goals, encouraging public authorities in Germany to drive sustainability through their purchasing power. With CSCP guiding the rollout, the first pilot projects are expected soon, laying the groundwork for long-term sustainable procurement across sectors. This initiative not only supports Germany’s path to carbon neutrality but also helps improve supply chain sustainability and builds trust in public tenders.
“The CO2 Performance Ladder allows public authorities to harness their purchasing power to not only drive emissions reductions but also to encourage suppliers to improve their sustainability strategies. It’s a proven tool that enhances trust and contributes to public climate goals.“
– Cristina Fedato, Head of Sustainable Infrastructure, Products and Services at CSCP
